After the successes we had with them in 2010, we're happy to announce that Froggy's Photos, in conjunction with Tenth Planet Events, will once again be doing individual, high-quality 8x10 photos for a nominal charge with selected guests at this year's convention. These glossy photos will be produced very quickly, allowing you to have autographed at a later session. There will be times scheduled throughout the weekend (noted in your Program Book and also on our tentative schedule immediately prior to the start of the convention).
Later this year, Froggy's Photos will provide on their website the ability to pre-purchase these photo sessions. Keep watching this space for further details.
For these photo sessions, be sure to be on time, as the guests will only be available for a very short time during each session. The Photo Studio is will be located in one of the smaller rooms on the convention floor near the dealers room. Please note that the photographer is an independent vendor working with Tenth Planet Events, and therefore Gallifrey One is not involved in the process (nor are we taking any commission/fee).
Due to logistical issues, we have elected not to continue our group photo ops, which can be very taxing on our guests due to the long lines. We've eliminated these sessions in order to provide a bit more time during the autograph sessions for each guest.
Gallifrey One's autographs process is called Flyaway Autographs. Autographs have always been very popular, but also a great source of consternation from our attendees for one important reason: the LINES. Long lines not only prevent some people from getting autographs, but also force many of our attendees to wait for extended periods, missing some of our most popular panels and events. We revised the way we conducted the autographs process in 2010 to eliminate the lines ahead of time. We call it "flyaway autographs" because it's modeled after some airlines (like Southwest) where you board by group number.
Time and Place: Flyaway Autographs in 2011 will take place in a marked location on the main convention floor (to be announced). There will be two autograph sessions on Friday, three on Saturday, and two on Sunday. Each session now has a session time ("Time") when the autograph session begins; a ticket time at which you can pick up an early ticket for the session (tickets will also be available at the session itself); and a cutoff time at which we will stop giving out tickets. (Note: cutoff times are approximate and depend in traffic through the autograph session.)
Autograph Tickets: In order to get an autograph in a particular session, you simply need to get a ticket to that session. Tickets are available at the autograph ticket desk located just inside the autographs hall. There are two opportunities to get a ticket for a session:
- Opportunity #1: The ticket desk will be open at selected times (noted in the program book and in the online schedule) which are usually several hours prior to a session. The ticket desk will be open during these times for approximately 15 minutes (at their discretion) only.
- Opportunity #2: The ticket desk will reopen for that session as soon as the autograph session starts.
If you would like to be early into the session, you should get a ticket during the first opportunity. However, you will always be able to get a ticket at the start of the session itself. You can get a ticket for any session or multiple sessions, but you can only have one ticket for each session at any time.
The Process: Your autograph ticket will have the session information (day, session number and time) as well as a group number. This is how it is similar to airlines: you will "board" according to your group number. Groups are in batches of 15 people and you go in when your group number is called, starting with Group 1, then Group 2, and so on. The simple rules:
- If your group has not yet been called for this session, you must wait until it is called to get into the autograph queue.
- If your group number has been called already for this session, then you can enter the autograph queue at any time.
The end result of this process to give you ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to show up at any time prior to the autograph session, thereby eliminating the lines before the session. There will always be lines during the autograph session, but not beforehand... meaning, you can go see panels and events and then show up at the session start time.
We put the Flyaway Autographs process in place in February 2010. After a first day of confusion (where everyone, from attendees to committee members, were getting used to the process), things settled down and worked exactly as we wanted them to. We've decided to keep this process as our official autographs policy going forward, due to the significant amount of positive feedback we received during and after the convention about it.
How much do autographs cost?
For Gallifrey One's invited guests, autographs are absolutely FREE and are included in the cost of your membership. These guests may bring photos or other memorabilia to sell, but will happily sign your program book or your other merchandise during their selected autograph sessions.
For sponsored guests and local actors, the rules are different. Sponsored guests -- which include all guests sponsored by Tenth Planet Events -- will charge for autographs as part of their sponsorship; they are allowed to set their own rates, and usually sign at places other than the autograph hall. Should Gallifrey One announce any local actors (such as science fiction TV actors local to the Los Angeles area), these guests are also allowed to charge for autographs, as they are visiting Gallifrey One of their own accord and this is how they are compensated for their time.
How many items can I have signed at any one time during an autograph session?
For the specific autograph sessions announced by Gallifrey One, you may have two items signed per each trip through the line. If you are in an early group, have made a trip through the line and tickets are still being given out for the same session, you may ask for another ticket and go through the line again. However, Gallifrey One reserves the right to protect our guests' interests, which includes limiting the number of trips through the line. You are always welcome to come back the following day, too.
Why show up at the exact time of the session?
We recommend you show up on time, i.e. at 1pm for a 1pm session, and so forth. Many people in earlier groups may simply not show up on time, meaning there will be fewer people in the groups to go through until we call your number. We are not allotting specific time to specific groups, so we cannot tell you how long it will take until your group is called. Once again: if you have a ticket for a particular session, there is absolutely no reason for you to show up earlier than the start time of that session; waiting around doesn't help you at all, won't ensure you an earlier entrance, and furthermore means that you're missing out on the events!
Why not show up late?
Simply because of the cutoff time. The cutoff time as listed in the schedule in your program book is the time in which we will no longer give out new tickets for the session. This time is approximate, too, based on foot traffic.
Why do you use this autographs process?
Because we don't want our attendees missing all the fun standing in line for hours. We want to hold your place in line so you can get back to enjoying the rest of the convention!
